Saba Desert, a juvenile son of Dubawi, remained unbeaten on Saturday 12, July when landing the G2 Superlative Stakes. Run over seven furlongs at Newmarket, the Charlie Appleby-trained colt quickened clear inside the final furlong.
Despite drifting into the middle of the track, he won by one-and-a-quarter lengths over Italy, with Wild Desert (a Too Darn Hot half-brother to Earthlight and Shadow Of Light) a neck back in third.
This was Saba Desert’s second career start after a debut victory at Sandown Park, in the same race Native Trail won before landing this Newmarket feature.

A Godolphin-homebred, Saba Desert is a second winner bred out of the Sea The Stars mare Finespun, a daughter of Champion filly Gossamer, who is herself a half-sister to dual G1-winning miler Barathea. Finespun also has a colt foal by Dubawi.
Dubawi has now sired four winners of the Superlative after Master Of The Seas, Quorto and Ancient Truth.
He has sired 19 Black Type winners in 2025, led by G1 winners Delacroix, Lead Artist and Walk Of Stars as well as Group winners Rebel’s Romance, Imperial Emperor, Dubai Future, and Zanzoun.
