Palace Pier sires his first Group winner

Talented filly Royal Fixation lands G2 Lowther Stakes at York

First-season sire Palace Pier sired his first Group winner on Thursday, 21 August when his very exciting daughter Royal Fixation ran out the convincing winner of the G2 Lowther Stakes on the second day of York’s Ebor meeting.

Settled off the early pace under William Buick, Royal Fixation came with a withering run down the centre of the track as the field quickened for home, sweeping past her rivals to win by a length from joint favourite America Queen.

The Ed Walker-trained filly broke her maiden on her racecourse debut at Thirsk and was beaten just a neck by Venetian Sun in the G2 Duchess Of Cambridge during July Week at Newmarket. Her trainer indicated after the race that the G1 Cheveley Park will be her next target.

Royal Fixation becomes the second Black Type winner out of Fixette (Kodiac), also dam of two-year-old Listed winner The Fixer.

World Champion miler Palace Pier has made an excellent start to his stud career, with four Black Type horses to his name already. They include recent Stonehenge Stakes victor Morris Dancer, Listed placegetter Sirius A, together with the unbeaten filly Golden Palace, who could line up against Royal Fixation in the Cheveley Park.
