Night Of Thunder has, even by his own lofty standards, enjoyed a spectacular start to the Ebor meeting at York, siring the G3 Acomb winner Gewan and the brilliant G1 Juddmonte International winner Ombudsman yesterday.
On Wednesday, his wonderfully consistent daughter Charlotte’s Web added a well-deserved first Stakes win to her record when landing the Listed Galtres Stakes, run over 12 furlongs.
Settled in mid division under Danny Tudhope, Charlotte’s Web was always travelling well and was asked to quicken at the two-furlong marker. Picking up well, the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained filly took the lead inside the final furlong and held off the late challenge from Crepe Suzette to prevail by a head.
Charlotte’s Web has now made the frame in 12 of her 14 starts with five wins now to her name.
Bred by Godolphin and running in the colours of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum, she is out of the Lope de Vega mare Chamundi Hills, herself a half-sister to multiple Group winner Luminate.
Her victory further cemented Night Of Thunder’s position at the head of the UK/ IRE Sires’ Championship, where he sits almost £1 million clear. He has now sired 23 individual Black Type winners in 2025, including the aforementioned Ombudsman (also winner of this year’s G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot) and 1,000 Guineas heroine Desert Flower.
Night Of Thunder is available to cover southern hemisphere time – please contact the Nominations team if you are interested in sending him a mare.
