Legendary excels and succeeds

Since arriving in the U.S. this past April, Exceed And Excel's son Legendary has been going very well. He followed his second-place finish in his stateside debut at Keeneland with two nice wins at Belmont. And while his first added-money start in the Listed Lure Stakes last out (a third-place finish) didn't provide the optimum result, he was not going to be denied in the Listed Japan Racing Association Stakes on September 6, drawing off down the lane with an impressive victory.

His running style of late showed him being fairly forward placed but in this one and one-sixteenth mile turf event, new jockey Sheldon Russell had him just ahead of two horses in the race's early going. With some urging down the backside, Legendary began to pick off horses and was able to reach the lead in mid stretch and then gradually pulled away nearing the wire.

Bred by Genesis Green Stud Ltd., Legendary is out of the multiple Listed winner Red Carnation, a half-sister to Listed winner and multiple G1-placed Red Fort.

Exceed And Excel is the sire of 86 Stakes winners - nine individual G1 winners - including Excelebration, Outstrip and fellow Darley stallion Helmet. Exceed And Excel is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside in Australia.
