Night Of Thunder’s brilliant season continued on Saturday, 16 August when siring a Group double within the space of ten minutes.
First to strike was his three-year-old son Zahrann who impressed in the G3 Royal Whip Stakes over ten furlongs at the Curragh. Making his first start since placing at G2 level at Royal Ascot, he powered clear inside the final furlong to win by two lengths.
Owned and bred by the late Aga Khan, Zahrann was unraced as a juvenile and has now won three of his five starts including the Listed Nijinsky Stakes at Leopardstown in June.
The double came up the other side of the Irish Sea less than ten minutes later when More Thunder won his first Black Type race in the G2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.
Held up in his customary fashion, he quickened clear just over a furlong from home, running out the two-and-a-quarter length winner.
Bred by Woodstock BS and Troy Bloodstock, More Thunder was running in his first Stakes race after winning two Heritage handicaps this season including the Bunbury Cup on his last start. The four-year-old has now won five of his ten career starts.
Night Of Thunder, who leads the GB/IRE sires Championship, has now sired 21 Black Type winners this season. They include four G1 winners through Ombudsman, Desert Flower, Choisya and Dynamic Pricing.
