Powerful young sprinter Angel Capital returned to racing on Saturday, 6 September with a scintillating victory in the Listed Chautauqua Stakes over 1,200m at The Valley in Melbourne.
Having his first run for champion trainer Chris Waller, Angel Capital came from the tail of the seven-horse field at the 600m mark to swoop on the leaders and race clear to record his fourth Stakes victory from just seven starts.
The son of former champion UK galloper Harry Angel beat Compelling Truth by 3.75 lengths, with a nose to Miraval Rose in third place in a fast 1 minute 9.86 seconds on a track surface rated a Soft 5.
Winner of the G2 Autumn Stakes 1,400m last year, the G3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude 1,400m and the Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes 1,200m in 2024 when trained by Clint McDonald, Angel Capital lifted his prize-money tally to $706,750.
Bred by David Peacock out of the Australian mare Bahamas, who is also the dam of Stakes winners Berkeley Square and Senor Toba, Angel Capital was offered by Mill Park Stud, Meningie at the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale where Upper Bloodstock/G Ho outlaid $400,000.
The four-year-old colt has a three-year-old half-brother by Blue Point, a two-year-old half-sister by Pinatubo">Pinatubo, a yearling half-brother by Blue Point and his dam visited Harry Angel again last season.
Harry Angel has enjoyed great success in a short period at stud for Darley in England and Australia, siring 231 winners of 543 races – including 20 Stakes winners of 35 Black-Type events.
His exciting son War Machine won the G1 Stradbroke Handicap over 1,400m at Eagle Farm during the Queensland Winter Carnival.
